Onward...

By Laura Lee Partington

A little over three weeks ago, my husband and I moved into the home that he built us single-handedly from scratch.

A little over a month ago, I finished up my 2L finals.

A little over three weeks ago, I gave birth to my first child. Meet Wren Geneva…

Wren Geneva

This has been one interesting year to say the least. (Being pregnant through an entire year of law school is no joke for anyone who was wondering.) I think I might finally be turning into a bit of a grown up after 31 years on this planet. I must say, at this moment, sitting in my new home, staring at the amazing human we created, and having accomplished another year of lawyering school, I feel pretty good. Well, other than my body…that still doesn’t feel all that great after the whole birthing thing.

I wonder what my last year at WVU College of Law will bring. I wonder what it will be like to be a mom in law school. (Aside: now that my daughter is here, I am even more in awe of the moms and dads who are living the law school dream.) I wonder what it will feel like to (hopefully) finish one of the hardest academic achievements of my life. I wonder if I will get a job in what everyone describes as an abysmal job market. I wonder if I will like being a lawyer or if I will even end up being a lawyer in some capacity. I wonder if they really do “bore you to death” your 3L year. I wonder if I will ever get any sleep.

Here’s hoping this year will be the most beautiful yet.
