Calling All Trial Students!

by Katie Dean

The Marlyn E. Lugar Trial Association is an organization at West Virginia University College of Law that allows students to learn about trials and actually advocate in both in-house and national competitions.

Lugar

This fall, Lugar is proud to announce that 2 teams are competing in the ABA Labor and Employment Trial Competition in November. The first team is sponsored by Lugar and is comprised of 4 members, who will be traveling to Washington, DC: Jon Hays, Andrew Pahl, Ryan Hupp, and Molly Russell. The second team is sponsored by Steptoe & Johnson and is also comprised of 4 members who will be traveling to New York City, NY: Tai Shadrick, Matthew Liller, Mayur Patel and Katie Dean. We wish the competitors luck in their upcoming competitions.

Additionally, Lugar is looking forward to the spring! The executive board is working on the logistics of the Lugar Cup, dates TBA. We are especially excited to announce that we will be including a 1L Pre-Round. Keep your eyes and ears open about meetings and sign-ups for the Lugar Cup, which should be in the near future.

Finally, for those of you who would be interested in competing in the spring, Lugar traditionally sends a number of members to compete in outside competitions. To be eligible to compete, you must be a 2L. You also must have completed both trial advocacy and evidence with a B minimum average between the two courses. You must be a Lugar member, so be sure that your name is on the master list and that you have paid your dues ($5) for the year. If you need to pay dues, see Dallas Kratzer.

An Lugar Informational Meeting will be held on November 7, at Noon, in Room 154 for all who are interested!

We look forward to working with many of you!
