What is your favorite law school memory?

I value so many memories and moments from law school, most of which center around the classrooms. I remember being immediately struck by how awesome it felt to be in class my first week back on campus. The subject matter, the brilliant professors, and my impressive classmates made for really enjoyable discussions which made me feel like I was right where I belonged. I have sincerely missed the atmosphere in the classrooms and in the hallway over the past three semesters as I have been learning almost entirely remotely.

Who/what inspired you to to go law school?

I was always interested in and fascinated by the law, and had imagined myself in law school since I was young. I was a bit burned out after undergrad, however, and ended up going to work rather than staying in school. During the decade or so while I was working, I found two primary motivations for coming back to law school. First, the law seemed like a career which was likely to provide more stability for myself and my new family than I had found in the oil and gas industry. Second, the law seemed like a good way to put my particular skills to work to make the world a better place. I had worked with inspiring people to advocate local human rights causes and I had followed heartbreaking stories in the news, and I wanted a way to make a career out of helping good people fight against bad things. So when I was laid off for the second time in three years in April 2018, it seemed like a great opportunity to pursue a law degree.

Who would you like to thank?

Thank you to my amazing wife, Ashley, who has done so much to support out family while I went back to school.

Thank you to my beautiful kids, Bennett and Vivi, for making me crazy and keeping me sane.

Thank you to my father and grandfather, who, like always, provided moral and financial support whenever I needed it.

Thank you to my classmates: I have been impressed and inspired by you since our first day of classes three years ago.

Another one of my favorite memories from law school was watching the seasons change from my favorite study spot at the far end of the second floor in the library. I snapped photos of the fall foliage and the winter snow and the leaves sprouting again in the Spring... I alternated between normal reading in the main hall and more "intense" studying up in the quiet of the library....and this spot was just so perfect for me. (Another reason that working almost exclusively from home over the past year+ has been unfortunate... I don't just miss the people, I am more productive in the place.)
