Biography
F. Marlena Barge, MSW, LICSW-S is a WV native and a dedicated social worker with over 25 years of experience serving young adults, families, and communities. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work from West Virginia University and her Master of Social Work from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.
Throughout her career, Marlena has worked in a wide range of settings in Columbus, Ohio, including community organizations, schools, and hospitals, providing compassionate care and advocating for systems that promote resilience and success. She has served as a field instructor for The Ohio State University’s College of Social Work, guiding the next generation of professionals through hands-on learning and mentorship.
Marlena’s career highlights include community organizing for peace marches, providing counseling services to Young Adult Cancer Survivors and developing counseling services for families and children of Breast Cancer Patients, and creating supportive spaces in private practice for adults navigating grief, loss, and life transitions. It’s been her greatest honor to walk alongside others during life-shaking moments.
In August 2024, Marlena returned to her alma mater, West Virginia University, with her husband, Mario. She now divides her time between WVU’s Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services and the WVU College of Law, continuing her commitment to supporting students through pivotal life moments.
She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with Supervision (LICSW-S) in both Ohio and West Virginia and is Internationally Certified as an Executive Coach as well.
Outside of her professional work, Marlena cherishes time with her husband, Mario, and their two children, Mya and Max. Together they enjoy playing with their dogs, cooking outdoors, traveling, and cheering on the Mountaineers and the Columbus Crew.
