3+3 Admissions

WVU’s 3+3 Program allows qualified undergraduate students to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a J.D. in six years instead of seven. Once admitted to the program, students begin their first year of law school during what would be their senior undergraduate year.

Qualifying WVU Colleges

The program is open to students from these colleges:

  • Eberly College of Arts and Sciences
  • Davis College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
  • College of Creative Arts and Media
  • John Chambers College of Business and Economics

Qualifying Undergraduate Majors

The program is open to students in these majors:

  • English
  • History
  • Philosophy
  • Political Science
  • Energy Land Management
  • Environmental and Energy Resources Management
  • Environmental and Natural Resources Economics
  • Multidisciplinary Studies
  • Journalism
  • Advertising and Public Relations
  • Economics
  • Art History

Eligibility Requirements

Students with an LSAT score of 158+ and a 3.7+ GPA are presumptively admitted. Students not meeting the presumptive threshold will be considered within the general applicant pool. To remain in the program, students must earn a C or better in first-year law courses and maintain a 2.3 cumulative GPA.

To qualify, students must:

  1. Declare their major by fall of sophomore year
  2. Complete at least 90 undergraduate credits by the end of junior year
  3. Earn a minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA through five full-time semesters
  4. Take the LSAT in October of junior year (December retake allowed)
  5. Apply to WVU Law by January 15 of junior year
  6. Pay law and undergraduate tuition beginning 1L year
  7. Discuss loans or scholarships with an adviser
  8. Pass a character and fitness review
