Financial Aid and Scholarships

We know law school is a significant financial commitment. That’s why all incoming students are automatically considered for a merit scholarship.

Financial Aid

WVU has a central financial aid office, known as the WVU Hub. To help guide students through the financial aid process, the WVU Hub maintains a dedicated website for law students, offering information on tuition and fees, scholarship and loan opportunities, application procedures, and important deadlines. It serves as a one-stop resource for planning, applying for, and managing financial aid throughout law school.

For questions about the financial aid process or to schedule one-on-one counseling, please contact the WVU Hub.

Scholarships

We understand that law school can be expensive, which is why all incoming students are automatically considered for scholarship aid. Admitted students are notified of their scholarship award at the time of admission. No separate application is required; all admitted students are reviewed.

Scholarships are awarded through a holistic assessment of each student’s application. Academic achievement is the primary factor, but leadership experience, community involvement, and other personal or professional accomplishments are also considered. Because awards are based on your application, it is important to keep the Enrollment Management Office informed of any updates. Changes may be submitted to wvulaw.admissions@mail.wvu.edu.

Scholarship awards are renewable for the second and third years of study, provided the student remains in good academic standing.

Conditional Scholarships

The College of Law currently offers a limited number of conditional scholarships to entering students. These scholarships are conditioned upon the recipient maintaining a cumulative grade point average (GPA) above 2.5, which is the minimum GPA required for good academic standing. A student who fails to satisfy the scholarship’s higher GPA requirement will have the scholarship reduced or eliminated pursuant to the terms of the award.

As required by ABA Standards 509(b)(3) and 509(d), the following information is provided regarding the College of Law’s conditional scholarships:

Students matriculating in: Number of students entering with a conditional scholarship: Number of conditional scholarships reduced or eliminated:

2024-2025 Academic Year 7 0

2023-2024 Academic Year 6 0

2022-2023 Academic Year 12 1

External Scholarships

Additional funding opportunities are available through national and regional scholarship programs offered by philanthropic organizations across the United States. When our office becomes aware of external scholarship opportunities, Elissa Momen, Associate Director of Enrollment Management and Scholarships, will share these with students. We also encourage students to explore the scholarship databases listed below:

Military-Connected Students

Students with military connections may be eligible for additional benefits and are encouraged to review the WVU Center for Veteran, Military and Family Programs Benefits page for more information.
