Standards for Admission – J.D. Applicants
The Enrollment Management Committee conducts a holistic review of every application. Factors considered may include:
- Academic achievement and potential
- Undergraduate and graduate coursework
- Leadership experience
- Community involvement
- Overcoming adversity
- Work and life experience
- Demonstrated interest in the study and practice of law
Competitive applicants often highlight their strongest qualifications, articulate their interest in law, and explain how WVU Law will help them achieve their goals.
Application Dates
The application for Fall 2026 opens September 15, 2025.

Because WVU Law uses rolling admissions and rolling scholarship review, applicants are encouraged to apply early. View more dates and deadlines.
Application Fee
The application fee is $50 USD, payable by credit card at submission. Applicants may request a fee waiver by completing the Fee Waiver Request Form.

Reapplicants
Students reapplying to WVU Law should update their application materials. At a minimum, please update your:
- Application form
- Personal statement
- Resume
- Academic documents
Letters of recommendation may be reused, but we encourage submitting an additional letter reflecting your most recent work. Reapplicants must also update any information related to Character and Fitness.
Qualification for Admission to the Bar
All U.S. jurisdictions have character, fitness, and other requirements for bar admission. Applicants should research these requirements through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.
