Outreach

Looking to have a counselor present on a specific topic? Please use the Request Outreach Form.

Community referrals

For specialized care, psychiatric care, medication management, comprehensive testing, and/or extended care.

A counselor can streamline referral processes between community and assessment providers, Student Health, Healthy Minds University, as well as on campus resources.

Talkspace is an online therapy service that connects users to a dedicated, licensed therapist via private messaging and live video from a secure, HIPAA-compliant digital platform. Talkspace is available at no cost for all West Virginia University students. Students also have the option to receive two 30-minute live video sessions with their Talkspace therapist, each month.

Consultation

  • Students with very specific presenting concerns might be offered three consultation sessions. These sessions are designed to allow both student/counselor to jump right in and begin addressing the specific concerns, by offering solution focused interventions.
  • Faculty/staff/other students with non-urgent concerns about a student should reach out to the Counselor.
  • Faculty/staff/students with urgent concerns about a student should call Carruth immediately at 304-293-4431.
