A Message From Your SBA President

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to the 2016-2017 academic year at WVU College of Law!

There have been several changes in the administration, faculty, and staff.

First, on behalf of the student body, I would like to express our appreciation and best wishes for the departing staff members.

Janet Armistead, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, after 44 years of service to WVU, has retired.  We, the students and College of Law, are forever grateful for her service and she will always hold a special place in our history for her efforts in cultivating the student-centric environment that we enjoy today.

Additionally, we would like to extend a heartfelt goodbye to some of the other equally amazing members of our staff who have also retired: Dreama DeVincent, Jean Milam, Joy Fryson, and Cynthia Teeman.  Their immense contributions to the College of Law are immeasurable and we thank each for their dedication and service.

With transition comes opportunity, and while we are sad for our departing staff, we are also excited to welcome our new staff.  We are pleased to congratulate and welcome Tina Jernigan, the former Director of Admissions, as the new Assistant Dean for Student Life.  Also joining the staff as an Administrative Associate is Sherry Sizemore.

In addition to the new staff, we also have two new faculty members. Priya Baskaran will be the Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Law Clinic, and Jennifer Oliva will be the Director of the Veterans Advocacy Law Clinic.  We look forward to the new chapter ushered in by their addition and welcome them all to the College of Law family.

Next, the Student Bar Association is looking forward to continuing to serve the student body next year.  We are hosting a “Welcome Back” party Friday, August 19 at Rock Top Bar. More detail will provided the first week of classes.  It will be great to see all our returning classmates and welcome the incoming Class of 2019! The SBA truly hopes to see you take advantage of the opportunity to get to know everyone and have some fun!

The SBA will also be collaborating with other student organizations to host a variety of events, including the famous Trivia Bowl, Habitat for Humanity builds, and of course, tailgates for every home game. Come show your support for the West Virginia University Mountaineers!

Lastly, the SBA is devoted to ensuring that this year is a great year for everyone at the College of Law. If you have any questions, concerns, ideas, or if there is anything I can do to help you, please contact me at jjbutler@mix.wvu.edu, or approach me in the hallways at the College of Law. I am looking forward to this next year and serving you as President of the Student Bar Association. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Regards,

Jackson Butler
