Library Policies

All WVU students, faculty, and staff can check out books that circulate for the duration of a semester, with a few exceptions like our Special Collections. To borrow Law Library materials, you must have a current WVU ID card.

Special Collections in the law library such as Bar Reserve, Course Reserve, Legal Leisure, Media Services Equipment, Racial Justice, and Study Aids may circulate but can be checked out for a limited time period. Please inquire at the Circulation Desk for more information.

You can renew materials online by logging into your WVU Libraries Account, calling us at 304-293-5300, emailing the Circulation Desk, or visiting the Law Library in-person.

  • Printer/Copier/Scanners are available in the Law Library.
  • Black and white printing and copying costs $0.06 per page.
  • Color printing and copying costs $0.25 per page.
  • There is no charge to scan and send to email.
  • A Mountaineer ID card is required to use these systems.

  • College of Law students, faculty, and staff may request materials not owned by the Law Library or other WVU Libraries through our interlibrary loan.
  • To complete an interlibrary loan request, search the item in our online catalog or call 304-293-5300.
  • All interlibrary loan systems require a borrower to use WVU Login or WVU ID number and select Law Library as the pick-up location.
  • The estimated delivery time for books is one to two weeks, and journal articles are delivered via email within one to two business days.

  • Books and any items with accompanying media that have not been returned or renewed 30 days after their due dates will be treated as “Lost”.
  • Bills will be issued for lost item replacement.
  • Once the bill is paid, the library user has six months to return the item and still receive a credit for the replacement charge.
  • ILL and E-ZBorrow loans are not covered by these guidelines and accrue daily fines.
  • Notices are sent via campus email.
  • It is the responsibility of the borrower to know when library materials are due and to renew or return them on or before the due date, you are also responsible for checking your email for these notices.
  • Student bills are referred to the Office of Student Accounts and can be paid in person or online via the link to Student Accounts in STAR or Mix.
  • Faculty and staff borrowing privileges are revoked for bills over $100 or when materials have been billed for replacement.
  • Public patron privileges are revoked when materials have been billed for replacement.
  • Payment for bills can be made by check. The library does not accept cash.

College of Law Faculty

  • College of Law faculty members can grant proxy borrowing privileges to their Research/Teaching Assistants.
  • For information on setting up a proxy account, please see a Library staff member at the Circulation Desk.
  • Proxy borrowing privileges do not extend to E-ZBorrow or ILLiad (please see Interlibrary Loan procedures on this page).

Public Patrons

  • Public patrons can check out books that circulate for the duration of three weeks, with a few exceptions.
  • You can check out up to five items at a time, with a maximum of two CD sets, and you must have a Law Library Borrower’s Card.
  • To apply for a card, visit the Circulation Desk and bring ID.
  • There is no charge for a Law Library Borrower’s Card.
