WVU Innocence Project Clinic Client Applications
If you believe that you have been wrongfully convicted of a crime in West Virginia, please complete our application and submit it to the address below.
Client Eligibility
The West Virginia Innocence Project is a clinic that only handles cases of actual innocence, which means that you had nothing to do with the crime that you were convicted of (we are unable, for example, to take cases challenging the constitutionality of lengthy prison sentences). We only represent individuals whose cases are in a post-conviction stage, after a direct appeal has been denied. We do not help with direct appeals or with civil litigation.
If you meet the following criteria, please complete our application and submit it to the address below:
- You had nothing to do with the crime that you were convicted of;
- You were convicted in the state of West Virginia;
- Your direct appeal has already been processed and was denied.
Applications for assistance take a significant amount of time to review thoroughly; we thank you in advance for your patience.
Please note that we cannot accept applications completed by family members or friends of individuals with innocence claims.
