Martin Harrell to speak at WVU College of Law

M_harrell Mr. Harrell is a 1982 graduate of the WVU College of Law and Associate Regional Counsel for Criminal Enforcement/Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 3 and will speak on Tuesday, April 14 at 2 p.m. in the Davis Gallery. Refreshments will be served.

Mr. Harrell was honored as a winner of the prestigious 2006 Service to America Medals at a formal ceremony held in Washington, D.C., September 27. Harrell, an attorney for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, won in the Justice and Law Enforcement category. He was nominated for his work that led to the criminal prosecution of a Montgomery County businessman who illegally stored, transported and exported huge amounts of hazardous waste and other chemicals. Jackson Kelly Attorney Helps Host Visiting Delegation of Prominent Afghan Women Judges, Prosecutors, and Defense Attorneys

parween Parween Sultany Mascari, a Jackson Kelly attorney in the Firm’s Morgantown, WV office, recently helped host a visiting delegation of fourteen prominent Afghan women judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys in Washington, D.C. Ms. Mascari was one of a small group of U.S. women who participated in the Washington D.C. portion of the visiting women’s agenda. The Afghan women’s trip to the United States was made possible by the Public-Private Partnership for Justice Reform in Afghanistan. more,,,

Combs will join professor andré cummings’ Business Organizations class in room 154 on Thursday, October 16 to speak about corporate career opportunities and then at 11:00 a.m. she will talk on the topic of Lessons Learned from Financial Scandals. This portion of her talk will be open to the public, however. seating is limited.

Combs is Senior Vice President, Corporate Governance, Corporate Secretary and Deputy General Counsel, Exelon Corporation, Chicago, IL. Exelon is the largest electric and gas utility, nuclear power generator and power marketer in the United States and was named “Most Admired Utility” by Fortune Magazine in 2004, 2005 and 2006. more...

Luke A. Boso, class of 2008, was awarded first prize in the Michael Greenberg Student Writing Competition. Each year, the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association (NLGLA) hosts a writing competition challenging students enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school to submit papers on a cutting edge legal issue affecting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and/or Intersex community. more...

The Honorable Thomas B. Bennett
United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama

Judge Thomas B. Bennett serves as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Alabama in Birmingham and was appointed in June, 1995. Originally from Philadelphia, PA, Judge Bennett received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in economics, as well as his J.D., from West Virginia University. Following graduation from law school in 1976, he was a law clerk for the Hon. John R. Brown, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth circuit. Judge Bennett’s primary areas of practice were bankruptcy, including bankruptcy related litigation, and commercial litigation. He has lectured frequently on bankruptcy and commercial law issues. more...

Law School Summer 2007 Renovations Completed

The university completed scheduled asbestos abatements this summer at the law school as part of an ongoing university-wide building maintenance program. Included in the summer project were renovations to the classroom wing and Lugar Courtroom. We held orientation in the facilities last week, classes started this week, and the updates have been extremely well-received by students, faculty and staff! More...

The Honorable Robert B. King

Judge Robert B. King Robert B. King was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1998 to serve as a United States Circuit Judge for the Fourth Circuit. A native of White Sulphur Springs and Greenbrier County, Judge King graduated from WVU in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree. He received his law degree in 1968 from the WVU College of Law where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. As a student at WVU, he was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, Phi Alpha Delta and Mountain. Judge King was also a three-year letterman on the Golf Team and served as the team’s captain. While in law school, he served on the Law Review, as president of the Student Bar Association and was the recipient of the Patrick Duffy Koontz Scholarship. more...
